This jungle retreat, located on the Samaná Peninsula on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic, is carefully inserted into the local topography. The precise locations and elevations of the shared and private spaces that comprise the facility are adjusted to follow the grade of the mountain as it descends towards the beach. The use of vernacular materials and construction techniques emphasizes the project’s embedded condition in its site. In the hotel, a sequence of open spaces promotes the flow of air and the introduction of light, while the private bungalows are placed to ensure maximum seclusion nevertheless preserving a connection with the grounds.
